FAQ for wives

I need to understand why. Crossdressing FAQ's
for Wives

by Laura Amato

Q) OK so why does he crossdress? Aren't I enough woman for him?

A) First of all this is not your fault. In fact it really has nothing to do with you, though it will affect you. This has been with him for a lot longer than he's been with you.

Q) So when did he start dressing up?

A) He probably started dressing as a child or in his teens. In a very few cases it can start later.

Q) Why did he start?

A) Probably out of a sense of childlike curiosity. With some, their sisters or a baby sitter may have dressed them up as girls either for fun or punishment. With some it is purely a fantasy. Dressing can relieve the stress involved in living up to the perceived male role model as a tough, problem solver. The slightest deviation from
this role may lead to a feeling of temporary inadequacy. Pretending to be a girl gives a release from male peer pressures. When the dressing is completed the CD feels much calmer and more able to face his role.

Q) Is there sex involved?

A) Yes In the beginning especially as a teenager experimenting with self gratification. Probably less as a crossdresser grows older to being nonexistent by middle age.

Q) We're very close. Why didn't he tell me before we were married?

A) Crossdressing often times slows down as one grows into their twenties. Diminishing to partial dressing or stopping completely in what is called Purging. New loves and relationships make dressing quickly fade into the background and stop completely making the CD even think they are cured. This is most likely when you met.

Q) Why did his dressing come back?

A) In the mid twenties and later socioeconomic pressures start to surface. Children, a mortgage, 2 cars, and education worries can contribute. Probably the biggest factor though is his job. Career matters at work intensify as peers are promoted even including him. Pressures of family life and loosing the newness of a relationship all
contribute. Don't forget that socially at least most men feels the buck stops with them and they often take complete responsibility for many problems.
As the stress builds up he remembers that crossdressing always relieved pressure in the past. Why not now? He dresses and it works, the stress is relieved and so is he.

Q) Is he Gay?

A) No, not usually. They are men at all other times when they are not dressed.

Q) Does he take hormones and want to change his sex?

A) In almost all cases no. In very few instances do men advance unless they are latent Transsexuals. That warrants an entire different set of FAQ's.

Q) Can I make him stop?

A) This is probably the worst thing you can do. Forcing him to stop and purge his feminine side could have disastrous consequences. Most likely he would binge later on with the crossdressing urge even stronger. Besides his pressure will still be there.

Q) So what can I do?

A) Plenty. Compromise is the key from BOTH parties. After all you are hurt and probably shocked. This is a lot to absorb. Realize that neither of you is to blame.
He is terrified right now of loosing you or that you'll tell someone.
Reassure him of your love. You are going to need to give him some time to allow him to spend time at his hobby behind closed doors. Remember, it is a stress reliever for him. If you don't want him
to touch your clothing tell him so. He needs to respect that but you will need to help him get his own things. Catalogs work for most if you don't want to shop with him.
He may want to join a crossdressers club where he can dress freely. You should find a support group where you can talk to other wives with your same problem. If you've found a bitter group you are in the wrong place. You need understanding, not militancy.

Q) What do I gain if I let him crossdress?

A) You actually both have much to gain. After so many years in the closet he is finally free to be himself. Benefits are less stress, better health, New found creativity, thoughtfullness and appreciation.
Q) What about my rights?
A) Fortunately there are guidlines for both Wives and Crossdressers. It is called the Bill of Rights for Wives and Crossdressers. Remember these are guidlines. They can be added to or subtracted from. Everything is negotiable.
Q) Ok I've let him be himself now all he wants to do is Crossdress.
A) Many crossdressers are compulsive by nature. Finally free to be himslef new crossdressers often become like kids in a candy store. You may have to nudge him back to reality. Simply state that you miss the man you love. Tell him you'd like to see that man a little more often. If he has trouble have him see a psychiatrist about anti-compulsion prescription drugs.
Q) What are our chances?

A) Very Good actually. It is rare for a marriage to end because of crossdressing. This of course not the case if your husband is really Transsexual
Good Luck.

Steps on appling makeup

1)        I recommend starting with the eyes before the rest of your makeup. http://www.cdspub.com/dcl.gif Start with a light dusting of translucent face powder on the eyes.
http://www.cdspub.com/dcl.gif2)      Now, take the darkest shadow and start on the outside comer of the eye. Apply it approximately halfway in and halfway up the lid. Stop, take your blending brush, and blend this area.
3)       Go on to your second shade which will be medium. This color should start at the inside comer of the eye and it should be applied, again, about halfway up and toward the first color, your darkest one. You bring it just to where you stopped with your dark color so that they meet. Then you take your blending brush, starting from the inside corner of the eye this time, and blend toward the outside.
http://www.cdspub.com/dcl.gif 4)     Once you have that done on both eyes, take the highlighter, the lightest shade, and apply from the inside corner of the eyebrow, right under the eyebrow, all the way to the outside comer of the brow. It's like an arch. You want to lift the eye; open it up. Don't bring the highlighter down too far, because you will overlap the outside comer where you applied the dark shadow. You want a definite contrast. Again, that opens the eye up.
5)         Next step: liquid eye liner applied to the top lid.
6)         On the lower lid we will use a pencil so that we can smudge it with a Q-tip and give it a very soft look. Now to do this we start at the outside corner and you bring your eyeliner brush right at the very base of the eyelashes. There is a little indentation at the base of the eyelashes and if you actually let your brush rest on the eyelashes you can just slide this across very carefully, from the outside corner to the inside corner. You want the line to be thicker on the outside of the eye, this gives an illusion of lifting the eye and giving it more of an almond shape to the eye.
http://www.cdspub.com/dcl.gif7)        Once you have liner your eyes, apply your mascara. The best way to do this is to stand in front of a mirror, hold you head up and look down. This way you can use your mascara brush and get the top of the eyelashes and get the bottom eyelashes.
http://www.cdspub.com/dcl.gif8)      I recommend waiting to apply the pencil liner to the lower lashes after you get your foundation on and your undereye sealer for shadows and circles. The same thing applies with mascara. So for the best results, wait to do the mascara and pencil eyeliner until after you have completed the undereye concealer and the foundation.
http://www.cdspub.com/dcl.gif9)      Use enough of the concealer that will give you the effect that it's created to do. So many people, when they come in for a make-over, are amazed at how much of the under-eye concealer.
http://www.cdspub.com/dcl.gifOnce you have the concealer under both eyes, take a sponge and, very gently, dab at the product. This is called stippling and will blend the product without actually removing it or causing the skin to be stretched.
10)     http://www.cdspub.com/dcl.gifNow you will put on your beard cover. Use this product very generously. Some of the gals use a minimal amount of this and there is always a shadow coming through.
http://www.cdspub.com/dcl.gif11)     http://www.cdspub.com/dcl.gifWhen this is completed then you go on to the next step which is foundation. I make things easy when I do a make-over. I use a light and a dark foundation. This gives excellent coverage and it isn't greasy. Oil doesn't come to the surface so you won't look greasy.
http://www.cdspub.com/dcl.gif
12)    So what you do is stand in front of your mirror and hold your hands in front of your face and create an oval. The oval that you want to create is primarily under the lips, nose and eyes. This is the area we want to project, so this is where we want to create this oval. We'll use a lighter foundation on anything inside this oval because light gives the illusion of coming forward.
11)     We use the dark foundation on anything outside of the oval because it will camouflage and recede. So you'll be taking off a square masculine jaw line on a square face. If you have a long face you can put a little dark foundation on the chin area and on the forehead and this will help to create an illusion of a smaller face.
http://www.cdspub.com/dcl.gif

12)     http://www.cdspub.com/dcl.gifOnce you have your oval completed with the lighter foundation, go back and take your dark foundation using that same dot method. Start on the outside of the oval, just at the bottom side of the ear and come down to the chin. You make it wider at the top near the ear, approximately 11/2 - 2 inches wide. It will narrow down to maybe 1/2 inch near the chin depending on the width of the face and how much you want to take off.

How to conceal wrinkles, crow's feet, crepe-y lids & much more

By Julyne Derrick, About.com Guide

The last time I posted makeup tips for older women on my blog, women wrote in begging me for "more, more, more." So ladies, here you go.

Stay Away From Dark Lipstick

As we age, our lips thin. Super dark lipstick on skinny lips isn't attractive. Your best lipstick bet is the shade closest to your natural lip color or if you like color, rosy reds. Orange lipsticks tend to be aging, but pinks are not. If your lips have thinned or are super wrinkly, play up your eyes instead.
Not sure what color works for you? Hit the department store counter along with a friend you trust. Try on many colors with the help of a counter person and you'll figure out quickly what shades flatter your skin tone.
This is just one lipstick tip. Get more than a dozen more in (including the most flattering shade for older women) in Lipstick Tips for Older Women.

Try Eye Pencils Instead of Liquid Liners

Eye pencils are softer than liquid liners, which can be harsh on aging eyes. To soften the line even more, smudge it with your fingers or use an angled makeup brush dipped in dark shadow as a smudge-y eyeliner (this is how I line my eyes these days). Don't line the inside of the eye if you have small eyes, it makes the eye appear smaller.

Make Your Eyes the Center of Attention With the Right Eyeshadow Shades

Just as a fireplace can be the focal point of a gorgeous living room, consider making your eyes the focal point of your face. This will detract attention from any fine lines or turkey wattles.
Enhance your eye color with eyeshadow shades that will make your eyes pop. For brown or hazel eyes, golds and browns are gorgeous. Blue eyes look great with blue-gray and lighter browns and dark eyes look fantastic with dark shades.

7 Tips for Concealing Crow's Feet (aka "Laugh Lines")

People start developing crow's feet around the eyes in their 30s. I consider my own "laughing lines" and believe they are a sign of a good life. I hope to develop many more as I grow older.
But not everyone loves crow's feet. You can freeze them with Botox or fill them in with fillers (read more about these in Hollywood Secrets to Looking Younger), but there are few other non-invasive ways to conceal them or diminish the signs of them, including choosing the right pair of glasses.

Don't Overdo Your Makeup

Less is more when it comes to makeup as you age. You don't want to pile on the foundation, the eyeliner and the heavy lipstick. Instead, you want to use highlighter pens, tinted moisturizers and a lighter touch with the shadow and lipstick. Oh, and you might want to get some bangs.

Adopt a Great Skincare Routine

The key to looking younger than you is to get your skin in tip-top shape.
A good skincare routine will create the illusion of youthfulness. You shouldn't just cleanse and moisturize your skin, you should also exfoliate weekly and consider antioxidants or Vitamin A products. Super hydrating masks can do wonders to mature skin (see my list of the Best Face Masks). And if you really want to get rid of those wrinkles, you might consider lasers, Botox or fillers. Read more about these in-office procedures in my in-depth article, How to Fix Deep Wrinkles: 5 Wrinkle Fixes You Can Get at Your Doctor's Office.

How to Conceal Sagging Skin

As we age, we may begin to notice a big change taking place under the chin. And I'm not talking about excessive growth of chin hairs. You may develop a turkey wattle or you might what you consider a double chin. Either way, you might want to conceal it.
You could see a plastic surgeon and have lipo under your chin or a facelift, but if you don't want to spend the cash or endure surgery, there are inexpensive ways to conceal sagging skin and a crepe-y neck.

How to Conceal Droopy Eyelids Without Surgery

Drooping eyelids are another natural part of the aging process but there's no need to invest in eyelid surgery. You can spend thousands on an eyelift or you can try these beauty tips that cost nothing. Find out how in How to Conceal Droopy Eyelids Without Surgery.

Thinning or Bushy Eyebrows

I'm a stickler for good brows and am known for making my friends let me tweeze theirs. Keeping your brows done nicely is like having a facelift without surgery, according to author Charla Krupp's brow guy. Here are some tips for perfect brows:
  • Get your brows professionally done. Nothing opens eyes up like curled lashes and neat brows. If you can't afford waxing or threading every few weeks, use the professional's job as a map for your own tweezing. Simply pluck the stray hairs that grow in between professional tweezing or waxing. How to pluck your own brows.
  • Drawn-in brows are a no-no. You know the pencil-thin line you see some of your friends or women in your town wear? Well, they only age you and they're somewhat tacky. Learn how to properly fill in sparse brows.
  • Avoid tweezing gray brow hairs. Instead, conceal them with a brow powder or pencil.

Thinning Lips

Personally, I love a thin lip. I read somewhere once that it's a sign of intelligence. As we age, our lips lose some of their fat. Here's how to plump up thin lips.
  • Picking the right lip color is a must. Makeup artist Bobbi Brown suggests skipping the bright colors and opt for a color that's just a shade or 2 darker than your natural lip color. Check out 16 Lipstick Tricks and Tips.
  • As you age, your natural lip line fades. Create a lip line by coloring in lips first with a lip liner, then apply gloss or lipstick over the liner.
  • Consider getting rid of lipstick and using lip gloss instead. Gloss creates the illusion of puffed-up lips, especially when applied to the middle of lips.
  • Lip plumpers do work, but the effects don't last long (we're talking under an hour). So skip the plumpers and save your money. Even Vaseline on lips will make them appear larger.

Ack! What to Do About Sprouting Chin Hairs

For the record, I know 30-year-olds with chin hair problems. You can tweeze them or have your stylist tweeze them, but they will always grow back. The only way to keep chin hairs at bay permanently is electrolysis.

How to Get Rid of Your Moustache

  • You have 2 options for moustaches: Wax them off with a home waxing kit you can buy in any drugstore or have a professional do it. See How to Get Rid of Hair on Your Face.
  • To lighten dark moustaches, try kit made just for this which you can find in your beauty
